AL ATTIYAH AND SCHAREINA MASTERS OF THE SHORT FORM

Key points

The prologue of the 34^th edition of the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge took place on an 11 km course today.
Nasser Al Attiyah (The Dacia Sandriders) outgunned Lucas Moraes (Toyota Gazoo Racing) and fellow Dacia driver Sébastien Loeb in the Ultimate class.
Khalifa Al Attiyah (QMMF-Nasser Racing) played his part in the Challenger class to deliver a historic sibling double together with the three-time world champion. Enrico Gaspari (TH-Trucks) was the top-ranked W2RC entrant in SSV.
Tosha Schareina (Monster Energy Honda HRC) won the RallyGP prologue ahead of Luciano Benavides (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and his Honda teammate Ricky Brabec.
Michael Docherty (SRG Motorsports) grabbed the prologue again in Rally2. Gaëtan Martinez (CFMoto Thunder Racing) opened his championship account in the quad race.
Tomorrow, the field faces a 400 km trek to Mezaira’a (including 243 km against the clock). The first FIM rider will get to grips with stage 1 at 8 am (GMT+4). The first FIA car will get going at 10:20 am. Access the Race Center and follow the race live > here <.

FIA: Three-peat for Nasser Al Attiyah

Nasser Al Attiyah took the prologue for the third season in a row. No matter the car, the winner has remained the same since 2023. The three-time world champion has won with three different T1+ machines (Toyota Hilux, BRX Hunter and now Dacia Sandrider). The Qatari set a time of 6′23″ to beat Lucas Moraes in his Hilux (+5″) and Sébastien Loeb (+9″), putting both Dacia factory drivers on the podium of the day. Meanwhile, Eryk Goczał (Overdrive Racing) made an impressive W2RC Ultimate debut, securing 5^th place (+13″). His new teammate, the world championship leader Yazeed Al Rajhi, could only manage 9^th (+19″). This was Al Attiyah‘s 41^st career W2RC victory and Dacia’s 3^rd win in as many races. His result gave him the luxury of choosing his starting position last for stage 1. He will be rolling off 16^th, while Denis Krotov (Overdrive Racing) will have the unenviable task of opening the road.

CHALLENGER: Khalifa Al Attiyah steps out of his brother’s shadow

Khalifa Al Attiyah claimed victory in the Challenger prologue, setting the 17^th fastest time overall, 42 seconds behind his older brother. It was the younger Al Attiyah’s maiden W2RC win and the first sibling double in the history of the championship! Khalifa is the second Qatari racer to secure a W2RC win, after his brother. He topped the prologue ahead of the Saudi duo of Dania Akeel (+13″) and Yasir Seaidan (+16″), sealing a dominant 1-2-3 for the BBR team and the Middle East. What a debut in the Challenger class!

SSVs: The usual suspects

The local favourite and championship rookie Mansour El Helei initially set the fastest time in the prologue, only to receive a 2-minute penalty for missing a waypoint. That handed the victory to Enrico Gaspari, who claimed his 3^rd W2RC win. He led home fellow Italian Michele Cinotto (Xtreme Plus Polaris), while the 73-year-old veteran Claude Fournier rounded out the podium. The young guns will have to wait their turn!

FIM: Putting the “pro” in “prologue”

When it comes to prologues, Tosha Schareina leaves the opposition fighting for scraps! Since his W2RC debut in 2024, the Spaniard has won every single prologue except for the 2025 Dakar opener. After prevailing at the Dakar, BP Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal, Desafío Ruta 40 and Rallye du Maroc last season, the fastest gun in the East added the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge to his growing collection of prologue victories —and in his first appearance in the race, to boot. KTM’s Luciano Benavides (second at 4″) and Daniel Sanders (fifth at 17″), Honda’s Ricky Brabec (third at 13″) and Skyler Howes (sixth at 19″), and Hero’s Ross Branch (fourth at 16″) all finished within 20 seconds of the first leader of the rally. The fastest rider made the obvious call to start 10^th on Sunday, enabling him to capitalise on the tracks left by the nine riders ahead of him.

RALLY 2: Good things come in threes

Michael Docherty lives in Dubai, so he is in his element at the ADDC. He won the prologue outright in 2022 and set the fastest Rally2 time last year. Today, the South African made it a hat-trick, edging out the defending champion, Konrad Dąbrowski (Duust Rally), who will be opening the road tomorrow, and the Chilean Ruy Barbosa (Xraids Experience), the 2018 Youth Enduro World Champion, a fresh face in rally raids. His 18^th career win makes Docherty the third most prolific Rally2 rider ever, moving past Mason Klein (17). Bradley Cox (23) and Romain Dumontier (25) are now in his sights.

QUADS: Martinez opens his account

After winning every special except for the prologue in 2024, Abdulaziz Ahli was determined to claim the 11 km sprint, but a navigation error left the local hero trailing 3′55″ behind Gaëtan Martinez. The Frenchman took his first-ever W2RC victory, also the first for the third-generation Chinese quad CForce 1000.

Hoy se ha disputado el prólogo de la 34ª edición del Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, en un recorrido de 11 kilómetros.
En Ultimate, Nasser Al Attiyah (The Dacia Sandriders) ganó por delante de Lucas Moraes (Toyota Gazoo Racing) y el otro Dacia de Sébastien Loeb.
En Challenger, Khalifa Al Attiyah (QMMF-Nasser Racing) ofrece un doblete histórico a su hermano, el triple campeón del mundo. En SSV, Enrico Gaspari (TH-Trucks) gana entre los inscritos en el W2RC.

FIA: Nasser Al Attiyah por tercera vez

Nasser Al Attiyah gana el prólogo de la carrera por tercera vez consecutiva. Independientemente del coche, el vencedor sigue siendo el mismo desde 2023: el tricampeón del mundo ha ganado con tres T1+ diferentes (Toyota Hilux, BRX Hunter y Dacia Sandrider). Con un tiempo de 6’23’’, el qatarí se sitúa por delante del Hilux de Lucas Moraes (+5”) y Sébastien Loeb (+9”). Los dos Dacia oficiales están en el podio del día. En su llegada al W2RC en Ultimate, Eryk Goczal (Overdrive Racing) se hizo con el 5º puesto (+13″). Su nuevo compañero de equipo Yazeed Al Rajhi, líder del campeonato mundial, sólo consiguió el 9º tiempo (+19″). Al Attiyah se lleva su 41ª victoria en W2RC, el tercer triunfo para Dacia en tres carreras. Su resultado le ha permitido decidir en último su posición de salida en la etapa 1. Saldrá 16º, mientras que Denis Krotov (Overdrive Racing) abrirá pista.

CHALLENGER: Khalifa Al Attiyah se hace un nombre

Khalifa Al Attiyah se lleva el prólogo entre los Challenger. El qatarí marcó el 17º tiempo más rápido, a 42” de su hermano. Esta es la primera victoria en W2RC para el cadete Al Attiyah, ¡el primer doblete para unos hermanos en el campeonato! Khalifa se convierte en el segundo qatarí, después de Nasser, en ganar para su país en el campeonato. Queda por delante de los saudíes Dania Akeel (+13″) y Yasir Seaidan (+16″), ofreciendo un triplete al equipo de BBR pero también a Oriente Medio. ¡Qué comienzo entre los Challenger!

SSV: Aquellos que estábamos esperando

Anunciado como el favorito en casa para su entrada en el campeonato, Mansour El Helei demostró ser el más rápido en el prólogo antes de recibir una penalización de 2 minutos por no alcanzar un waypoint. Enrico Gaspari es el ganador del día, consiguiendo su tercer éxito en W2RC. Está por delante de su compatriota Michele Cinotto (Xtreme Plus Polaris) y del veterano Claude Fournier, en el podio hoy a sus 73 años. ¡Los jóvenes todavía tendrán que esperar!

Orden de salida FIA en la etapa 1 pronto en Sportity

FIM: ¡El pro de los prólogos!

Tosha Schareina no es imbatible en el ejercicio del prólogo, ¡pero casi! Desde que se unió al W2RC en 2024, el español ha ganado el prólogo de todas las carreras en las que ha participado, con la excepción del Dakar 2025. Vencedor el año pasado en el Dakar, el BP Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal, el Desafío Ruta 40 y el Rallye du Maroc, el rey del sprint añade a su lista de victorias el del Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, en el que compite por primera vez. Cinco motos se encuentran a 20″ del primer líder de la carrera: las KTM de Luciano Benavides (2º, +4″) y Daniel Sanders (5º, +17″), las Honda de Ricky Brabec (3º, +13″) y Skyler Howes (6º, +19″) y la Hero de Ross Branch (4º, +16″). El autor del mejor tiempo ha elegido lógicamente salir 10° este domingo, por lo que se beneficiará de las huellas de sus 9 predecesores en pista.

RALLY2: No hay dos sin tres

Michael Docherty, que reside en Dubai, conoce el terreno de juego del ADDC. Ganó el scratch del prólogo en 2022, y luego en Rally2 el año pasado. ¡Y ya van tres prólogos emiratíes para el sudafricano, vencedor hoy! Se impone por delante de Konrad Dabrowski (Duust Rally), que abrirá mañana, y del joven chileno Ruy Barbosa (Xraids Experience), campeón del mundo de Youth Enduro 2018 y debutante en el rally-raid. Al conseguir su 18ª victoria, Docherty se convierte en el tercer piloto con más triunfos en Rally2, por delante de Mason Klein (17). Bradley Cox (23) y Romain Dumontier (25) son sus próximos objetivos.

QUADS: La primera de Martinez

Abdulaziz Ahli, ganador de todas las especiales excepto el prólogo en 2024, aspiraba a hacerse con el sprint de 11 kilómetros. Un error de navegación retrasó al héroe local, que se encuentra a 3’55” de Gaëtan Martínez. El francés consigue su primera victoria en W2RC, pero también la primera de la 3ª generación del quad chino CForce 1000.
