THREE MEN BATTLE FOR THE FIA THRONE, SANDERS FOR LEGENDARY STATUS

Key points:

Just 7 days to go until the fifth and final round of the season, the Rallye du Maroc, scheduled for 10 to 17 October.
The 26^th edition of the Rallye du Maroc will take place on a 2,299 km route between Fez and Erfoud, including 1,478 km against the clock.
The entry list, published yesterday, contains a total of 229 FIA-FIM vehicles, including 107 in FIA (33 championship entries) and 122 in FIM (120 championship entries).
Daniel Sanders (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) secured the motorbike title last week by claiming his fourth consecutive round victory at the bp Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal. “Chucky” is now eyeing the Grand Slam!
The car championship leader, Nasser Al Attiyah (The Dacia Sandriders), is being pushed to the brink by Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC’s Henk Lategan and Lucas Moraes. Toyota have already wrapped up their fourth manufacturers’ world championship in a row and are serious contenders for the individual title.

FIM: SANDERS EYEING THE GRAND SLAM

Daniel Sanders is already the rider of the year, ascending the throne as the fourth W2RC champion with one round left and leaving a trail of broken records in his wake. The Australian holds the record for the most RallyGP specials won in a single season (15 out of 31, ongoing) and overall (23) and is the only rider who has nabbed more than two rallies in a single season. “Chucky” has taken four out of four so far and will complete a clean sweep if he makes it to the top of the podium at the Rallye du Maroc. The Grand Slam is his goal.

All nine RallyGP entrants racing for KTM (Sanders and Luciano Benavides), Honda (Brabec, Schareina, Howes and Van Beveren), Hero (Branch and Cornejo) and Sherco (Cox) have thrown their hats into the Moroccan ring. A cut below Sanders, three riders remain in contention for the runner-up’s spot, but there are only two podium spots open. Luciano Benavides (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 69 points), Tosha Schareina and Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda HRC, tied on 66 points) are just 3 points apart!

KTM lead the manufacturers’ ranking with 182 points, 30 more than Honda, threatening to end the hegemony of the three-time world champion manufacturer.

Edgar Canet (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) stands out from the 103-strong Rally2 field as the favourite to succeed Bradley Cox. The Spaniard has 88 points on his account, more than fellow KTM rider Michael Docherty (BAS World KTM Racing, 74 points) and Tobias Ebster (Hero MotoSports, 67 points).

BAS World KTM Racing are perched at the summit of the Teams ranking with 99 points, 40 more than the other orange squad, Xraids Experience.

KTM are thus in a position to score an unprecedented quadruple of RallyGP, manufacturers’, Rally2 and Teams Rally2 titles.

The 8 Rally3 participants include Thomas Zoldos (Aub’Motos), who is set to discover the desert astride his Beta after prevailing in Portugal and seizing the championship lead in the opening round of the series in this class. The Frenchman is the sole FIM motorbike leader not riding a KTM.

FIA: TOYOTA CRANK UP THE PRESSURE ON AL ATTIYAH

Exactly half (22 out of 44) of the Ultimate field are championship entrants. The three-time (and reigning) world champion, Nasser Al Attiyah, holds the record for the most victories in Morocco (7), including the most recent edition. However, his overall lead (140 points in total and a margin of 9) going into the final round pales in comparison to his 22-point margin over Loeb in 2022, his 51-point buffer over Al Rajhi in 2023 and his 25-point gap to the Saudi in 2024. Henk Lategan (second at the Dakar, first in South Africa and second in Portugal) has 131 points to his name, while Lucas Moraes, fresh off his bp Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal victory, has 130.

After bagging their fourth consecutive manufacturers’ title with one round to go, Toyota are determined to take their third individual crown, adding to the ones the Qatari conquered in 2022 and 2023. The stakes in the season finale have never been this high before!

There is also no shortage of drivers ready to run interference, starting with their teammates at The Dacia Sandriders (Loeb and Gutiérrez) and Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC (Quintero), not to mention Toyota Gazoo Racing (Variawa and Ferreira). Ford M-Sport (Sainz, Roma, Ekström and Guthrie) are the fourth works team deploying a full complement. X-raid Mini JCW (Baud), Century Racing (Serradori), Overdrive Racing (Al Rajhi), Energylandia (Eryk, Marek and Michał Goczał) could make an impact too, just like SVR, a new addition to the field that signed Yacopini in the late season.

Among the 8 championship entrants in the Challenger class, the overall leader, Vertical Motorsport’s Nicolás Cavigliasso (168 points), holds a sizeable lead of 29 and 42 points over BBR Motorsport’s Pau Navarro and Dania Akeel, but with 58 FIA points at stake in Morocco (30 for winning the rally, 25 stage points and 3 for the Power Selective Section), he is not home and dry yet, unlike his navigator, Valentina Pertegarini, who has already secured the title.

In SSV, Alexandre Pinto (Old Friends Rally) can now celebrate the title after his last remaining championship rival chose to sit this one out. His navigator, Bernardo Oliveira, had already claimed the crown in Portugal.

Faltan siete días antes del Rallye du Maroc, la quinta y última carrera de la temporada, que se celebrará del 10 al 17 de octubre.
La 26ª edición del Rallye du Maroc se disputará entre Fez y Erfud con un recorrido de 2.299 km, incluyendo 1.478 km de tramos cronometrados.
La lista de inscritos de ayer reveló un total de 229 vehículos FIA-FIM, incluyendo 107 FIA (33 inscritos en el campeonato) y 122 FIM (120 inscritos en el campeonato).
En motos, Daniel Sanders (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) es campeón desde la semana pasada tras su cuarta victoria consecutiva en el bp Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal. ¡”Chucky” ahora aspira al Grand Slam!
En coches, el líder del campeonato, Nasser Al Attiyah (Dacia Sandriders), se ve amenazado como nunca por los pilotos de Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC, Henk Lategan y Lucas Moraes. Toyota, ya coronado entre los constructores por cuarta vez consecutiva, lucha por el título de pilotos.

FIM: SANDERS A POR EL GRAND SLAM

Daniel Sanders ya es el piloto del año. Al convertirse en el cuarto campeón del mundo del W2RC, a una carrera del final del calendario, ha mejorado todas las referencias de sus predecesores. El australiano tiene el récord de más etapas ganadas en RallyGP (23), así como en una sola temporada (15 de 31). También es el único piloto que ha ganado más de dos mangas en un año. Tras hacer 4/4, “Chucky” puede hacer la temporada perfecta si gana el Rallye du Maroc. ¡Y ese es su objetivo: lograr el Grand Slam!

Los nueve pilotos de RallyGP inscritos en el campeonato para las marcas KTM (Sanders y L. Benavides), Honda (Brabec, Schareina, Howes y Van Beveren), Hero (Branch y Cornejo) y Sherco (Cox) compiten en Marruecos. Tres de ellos quieren el segundo puesto del mundial, pero solo dos subirán al podio final. Luciano Benavides (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, 69 pts), Tosha Schareina y Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda HRC, empatados a 66 pts) ¡están separados por 3 puntos! En la clasificación de constructores, KTM (182 pts) tiene una ventaja de 30 puntos sobre Honda. El tricampeón del mundo podría perder su corona.

Entre los 103 pilotos inscritos en Rally2, Edgar Canet (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) es el favorito para suceder a Cox. Con 88 puntos, el español está por delante de Michael Docherty (BAS World KTM Racing, 74 pts) y Tobias Ebster (Hero MotoSports, 67 pts). El BAS World KTM Racing Team lidera la clasificación por equipos (99 pts), 40 puntos por delante de otra estructura naranja, Xraids Experience. Así, KTM puede conseguir una hazaña sin precedentes: los títulos RallyGP, Constructores FIM, Rally2 y Teams Rally2.

Entre los 8 participantes en Rally3, Thomas Zoldos (Aub’Motos), ganador en Portugal y líder tras la primera fecha del calendario en esta categoría, descubrirá el desierto con su Beta. El francés es el único líder de una clasificación FIM que no está equipado por KTM.

FIA: AL ATTIYAH FRENTE A LOS TOYOTA

De los 44 Ultimate inscritos en el evento, la mitad (22) compiten en el campeonato. El tricampeón Nasser Al Attiyah, ganador del Rallye du Maroc 2024 y poseedor del récord de victorias (7), llega con 140 puntos. Competirá con una ventaja (9 puntos) que nunca ha sido tan pequeña, tras sus luchas con Loeb (22 pts de ventaja en 2022 antes de la final) y Al Rajhi (51 pts en 2023, 25 pts en 2024). Henk Lategan, 2º en el Dakar, 1º en Sudáfrica y 2º en Portugal, tiene 131 puntos. Lucaes Moraes, ganador del bp Ultimate Rally Raid Portugal, tiene 130 puntos. Tras conseguir su cuarto título consecutivo de fabricantes antes de la final, Toyota también aspira a su tercer título de pilotos, tras los conseguidos por el catarí en 2022-23. ¡La final del campeonato promete ser más emocionante que nunca!

Y muchos protagonistas podrán unirse a este trío. Empezando por sus compañeros en The Dacia Sandriders (Loeb y Gutiérrez), Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC (Quintero) y Toyota Gazoo Racing (Variawa y Ferreira). Ford M-Sport (Sainz, Roma, Ekström y Guthrie) será el cuarto equipo oficial alineando a todos sus pilotos. Sin olvidar a X-raid Mini JCW (Baud), Century Racing (Serradori), Overdrive Racing (Al Rajhi), Energylandia (Eryk, Marek y Michal Goczal) y el nuevo team SVR con el fichaje de Yacopini a finales de temporada.

Entre los 8 Challenger inscritos en el campeonato, la copiloto Valentina Pertegarini ya es campeona. Su piloto Nicolas Cavigliasso (Vertical Motorsport, 168 pts) lidera la tabla general con una cómoda ventaja de 29 y 42 puntos sobre los de BBR Motorsport, Pau Navarro y Dania Akeel. Pero la lucha sigue, ya que 58 puntos están en juego en Marruecos en las categorías FIA: 30 al ganar el rally, 25 repartidos en las cinco etapas, y 3 en la Power Selective Section.

En SSV, el rival más cercano de Alexandre Pinto (Old Friends Rally) no está en la lista de inscritos. Era su última amenaza en la clasificación general, así que el portugués ya tiene el título asegurado y podrá celebrarlo con su copiloto Bernado Oliveira, quien ya lo había conseguido en Portugal.
