ABT CUPRA ready for the last dance of this Formula E season

The grand finale of an exciting comeback season: this weekend (July 29 and 30) ABT CUPRA will compete in the last two races of the current ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in London. While at the top the titles in the drivers’ and teams’ standings will only be awarded in the final races, Robin Frijns and Nico Müller want to say goodbye before the break until next season with further top ten results.

The venue for the final weekend will be the Docklands in the east of the city and the Exhibition Centre London (ExCeL) for the third time in succession. Unique in the world of motorsport: the circuit runs partly through an enclosed exhibition hall. The track is 2.086 kilometers long and has numerous surprises in store, also due to the changing surfaces indoors and outdoors – for example, different grip conditions and changing conditions in the rain.

Both races start at 5 p.m. local time (6 p.m. CEST) and cover 36 (Saturday) and 34 laps (Sunday). A list of all international broadcasters is available at fiaformulae.com.

Nico Müller: “If it’s gonna rain …”
For Nico Müller, the circuit in London is uncharted territory. Therefore, curiosity and anticipation are high. “A new track for me, which looks very technical and tight,” says the Swiss. “I’m already very excited to see how it feels to drive through an indoor track in a race car. We have different types of asphalt in London and therefore different grip levels – so if it rains, it will be really exciting …” After a season with ups and downs, the motivation is undiminished. Müller: “It’s the grand finale of our first season together, which has demanded a lot from us. Of course, we want to say goodbye to the break with a good result.”

Robin Frijns: “Unique in the world of motorsport”
Robin Frijns already knows the spectacular London circuit from the past two years. His best result: a fourth place in the 2021 season, when he also did the fastest race lap. “The track in London with the paddock and the starting grid in an indoor arena is unique in the motorsport world,” says the Dutchman. “I like the layout of the circuit. It’s very narrow in many sections, so overtaking maneuvers are difficult – so full concentration on a good qualifying. The last races of the year are something special for everyone, everybody wants to show something once again – this is also true for us.”

Thomas Biermaier: “Proud of the team’s morale”
“2023 was certainly one of our toughest years in Formula E with all its challenges on and off the track, which makes me all the more proud of the morale of the whole team. And this includes not only the drivers but also all the mechanics and engineers,” says ABT CEO and Team Principal Thomas Biermaier. “London is the home of Formula E and, with its spectacular indoor race track, a perfect venue for the grand finale where the World Championship will be decided. We are looking forward to two exciting races, lots of guests and hopefully a few more points on our account.”

Company profile of ABT Sportsline

As the world’s largest specialist for automotive aftermarket and performance parts for the Audi, VW, Seat, CUPRA and Skoda brands, the name ABT Sportsline is world-renowned. The product line ranges from more engine power to body kits, over suspensions and interior design, to an extensive collection of alloy wheels. However, the Bavaria-based company, which has its roots in 1896, stands for much more. Today, several attractive subsidiaries with a total of 210 employees join forces under the umbrella of ABT SE. In doing so, they elegantly combine innovation and tradition. When it comes to drivetrain technology, the German company always has its finger on the pulse of the times: through ABT e-Line GmbH, the areas of electric and alternative mobility are covered as a further strong pillar of the company. And of course ABT Sportsline also stands for top-level motorsport, as it always has. This is demonstrated by the success story in the DTM, which continues right up to the present day, as well as the current involvement in the forward-looking electric racing series Extreme E and Formula E.
