Under the title Museum of Opacities, on June 6, 2023, the Museum of Civilizations presents the new chapter dedicated to the ongoing re-contextualization of the collections and the museal narrations: a unit of works of art and documents from the former Colonial Museum of Rome, that became part of the Museum of Civilizations’ collections from 2017 currently ondergoing re-cataloguing, are put in dialogue with works of contemporary art that also include new acquisitions made possible by PAC-Plan for contemporary art by Ministry of Culture, and new productions realized thanks to residency processes, in the context of Taking Care-Ethnographic and World Cultures Museums as Spaces of Care, supported by the Creative Europe program by European Union.

On June 6, 2023, the Museum of Civilizations also presents the first exhibition that recreates the living and working spaces, private and public at the same time, of the artist and activist Bertina Lopes (Lourenço Marques, now Maputo, 1924-Rome, 2012). On the occasion of the exhibition Bertina Lopes’ roman home and studio, in Via XX Settembre 98, will be for the first time subject to a partial reconstruction, made possible by the wide photographic documentation realized by the photographer Giorgio Benni and commissioned by the Museum of Civilizations. Within a selection of paintings and drawing, are also displayed in the exhibition books, photographies and work tools
