Neustadt, October 11, 2022. On the occasion of today’s UN International Day of the Girl Child, Rosberg X Racing is launching a campaign to support young female racing drivers. The 2021 Extreme E World Champion aims to give aspiring female motorsport drivers the chance to learn from the best. In exclusive mentoring sessions with Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Nico Rosberg, three female candidates can each discuss their professional goals and ambitions, ask questions, and pick up tips and tricks on a successful motorsport career. The sessions are personally tailored to the needs of the participants and are conducted via Zoom.
Equality in motorsport is an important topic for Rosberg X Racing. Around the world, women are still underrepresented in racing, and the next generation of female drivers lacks not only financial support and development opportunities but also suitable role models to confidently advance their careers. Rosberg X Racing wants to change this situation and draw more attention to the issue. The German squad has been competing with great success in Extreme E since 2021 – the first racing series in which one female racer and one male racer share a cockpit per team. Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky is one of the fastest female racing drivers of her generation, but has had to deal with many prejudices and setbacks in her career.
“Motorsport is a tough environment for girls. There were times when people doubted me and didn’t believe in me simply because I’m a woman. If I could speak to my younger self today, I would tell her to hang in there, follow her passion, trust her instincts, and believe in herself. Inner strength is always stronger than the doubters,” commented Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky.
Nico Rosberg, founder and CEO of Rosberg X Racing, said: “It’s time we gave women a real chance in motorsport. Mikaela shows that it is possible to get to the very top. Female racers in Extreme E are on par with the guys, and we should give more girls the chance that they deserve. I’m looking forward to working with new talent and using my experience for good.”
Female applicants for the mentoring sessions must be between 13 and 18 years old and have relevant experience and a successful track record in a karting series. Interested girls should send a letter of motivation to firstname.lastname@example.org. The winners will be randomly selected from the participants (provided they meet the above criteria) and announced on 31.10.2022.

About Rosberg X Racing
Rosberg X Racing was founded in 2020 ahead of the inaugural season of Extreme E. Led by 2016 Formula One World Champion and sustainability entrepreneur Nico Rosberg, the team is an evolution of Team Rosberg, founded in 1994 by Nico’s father and 1982 F1 World Champion, Keke Rosberg. The team has successfully competed in various racing series, including Formula BMW, Formula 3 and the German Touring Masters Championship (DTM), claiming a total of 38 DTM victories as well as three drivers and two team championship titles. RXR builds on Team Rosberg’s success as well as Nico’s post-F1 career as an entrepreneur in the field of sustainable mobility. In 2021, the team won the first-ever Championship title of Extreme E.
RXR is based in Neustadt, Germany, and aims to succeed both on the racetrack and in raising awareness and education in the fight against climate change. Inspired by Extreme E’s mission to leave a positive legacy at each of the series’ various race venues, the team is committed to using motorsport as a platform to serve a greater purpose together with all teams and drivers. To this end, it has launched its own campaign, Driven By Purpose.
Nico Rosberg is the CEO and founder of the team, while Kimmo Liimatainen takes on the role of team principal. In 2022, the two Swedes Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky and Johan Kristoffersson are at the wheel of the ODYSSEY21.
