AL ATTIYAH TAKES CONTROL,
SUNDERLAND STRENGTHENS HIS POSITION

Key points:

· Nasser Al Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing), 3^rd on the Rallye du Maroc, has taken the lead in the FIA world championship with an advantage of 22 points over Sebastien Loeb (Bahrain Raid Xtreme), the previous leader.

· Sam Sunderland, 5^th in Morocco and consistent throughout the race, has strengthened his position as leader (on 74 points) and finds himself ahead of the Monster Energy Honda bikes ridden by Pablo Quintanilla (on 52 points) and Ricky Brabec (50 points).

· Mason Klein (Rally 2), Alexandre Giroud (quad) and “Chaleco” López (T3) have all retained their 1^st places whilst in the T4 class, Rokas Baciuska (South Racing Can-Am) and Marek Goczał (Cobant-Energylandia Rally) are now neck-and-neck. Although Martin Macík (MM Technology) led the rally from start to finish, nonetheless Kees Koolen has been crowned FIA rally-raid championship winner in the T5 (truck) category.

· The titles in the other categories will be decided on completion of the final leg of the season at the Andalucía Rally from 18^th to 23^rd October.

T1: Loeb stalls and Al Attiyah reaps the benefits

The FIA world championship has witnessed a complete turnaround! Almost 9 months after the previous leg, at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Sébastien Loeb (Bahrain Raid Xtreme) arrived with a one-point lead over Nasser Al Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing). With 3^rd place on the Rallye du Maroc, the Qatari won one stage whilst his French rival (who finished 13^th) tasted victory twice. As a result, the Toyota Gazoo Racing driver has swept up most of the points, meaning that he has now taken the lead in the world championship, with an advantage of 22 points over Sébastien Loeb (144 points to 122 points).

The best performance of the week should however go to Guerlain Chicherit. By winning the Rallye du Maroc, the GCK Motorsport driver has achieved one of the best results of his rally-raid career. He has leapt up the world championship leader board and now occupies 5^th place with 48 points. To find out how it will finish and who will be in the final top 10, all eyes will now be on the Andalucía Rally.

T3: “Chaleco” keeps the lead but Quintero closes in

In the T3 class, the expectation was for a battle between the top two in the world championship: “Chaleco” López (Can-Am Factory South Racing), the leader before the Rallye du Maroc, and his closest pursuer Cristina Gutiérrez (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team). However, the main winner of the event was Seth Quintero. The American driver (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team USA) took control of the rally the day before the finish and was victorious overall, in front of “Chaleco” López and Cristina Gutiérrez. In the race for the world title, he still occupies 3^rd place (on 144 points) behind the uncatchable Chilean (on 182 points) and the Spaniard (on 154 pts).

T4: a tie for the lead!

In the T4 class, the suspense was also constant and there were many upheavals. The leader before the start, namely American Austin Jones (Can-Am Factory South Racing), only finished 6^th on the rally and consequently drops to 3^rd place in the championship (on 151 points), overtaken by Rokas Baciuska (South Racing Can-Am), who won the Rallye du Maroc, and Marek Goczał (Cobant-Energylandia Rally Team), a stage winner on three occasions. Strangely enough, the two men share the lead in the race for the world title with the same number of points (152).

T5: Kees Koolen grabs the year’s first title!

In the truck category, Czech driver Martin Macík sailed through this edition of the Rallye du Maroc. He won three stages and led from the start to the finish of the race. However, it was not sufficient to knock the leader of the championship, Kees Koolen (Project 2030), off his perch. The Dutchman tasted victory on two stages and finished 2^nd in Morocco, allowing him to retain a slim advantage in the category on 186 points, 26 points better off than Martin Macik. Since it was the last leg of the season, the Dutch driver has become the first competitor to be crowned world champion this year.

Moto Rally GP: gently does it for Sunderland

Unbeaten this season at the start of the race following his prestigious successes on the Dakar then the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Sam Sunderland (GasGas Factory Racing) displayed consistency throughout the Rallye du Maroc. With a 5^th place finish in the overall rankings, the British rider has strengthened his position of world championship leader on 74 pts. He boasts a lead of 12 points over his closest pursuer, Pablo Quintanilla (Monster Energy Honda) who suffered a fall during the rally and finished overall 10^th at the end of the race. As for Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda), he climbs onto the podium, moving from 4^th to 3^rd place (with 50 points). His team-mate Adrien Van Beveren, a two times stage winner, did likewise, climbing from 7^th to 6^th position (with 33 points). The Andalucía Rally could see even more upheavals in the Top 10!

Moto Rally 2 and Quads: Klein and Giroud accumulate the points

Throughout the Rallye du Maroc, Mason Klein (BAS World KTM Racing Team) performed impressively, regularly keeping pace with the Rally GP riders. With three stage wins out of five and the lead in the overall rankings for the entire race, he triumphed with flying colours. In the world cup rankings, he has strengthened his first position (on 88 points) in front of his closest pursuer, Romain Dumontier (Team Dumontier Racing), who was third on the rally and currently has 60 points. In the quad category, Alexandre Giroud, the winner of the Dakar and leader going into the race, rode in a manner to protect his advantage. Although he finished 8^th on the Rallye du Maroc due to engine problems, the Yamaha SMX Dragon’s rider still holds the lead in his category with 63 points. Most of the riders and drivers in the various categories will be coming together in Andalusia in a dozen days’ time for the final contest of the season, and it promises to be one hell of a battle!

Rally 3: a great start

For the 9 riders who set off behind the handlebars of their enduro bikes with increased range and equipped with navigation equipment, it was their first competition of the two legs that make up the FIM world cup. However, the rally turned into a demonstration by one of their number: Amine Echiguer. The Moroccan was victorious on 4 of the 5 stages held and always led the overall rankings. This victory on home soil allows him to take the lead in the world cup with the title also to be decided in Andalusia. Guillaume Borne (Husqvarna Morocco Rally) and Indian Abdul Wahid (Sherco TVS Factory) complete this first podium of the season.

· Nasser Al Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing), tercero del Rallye du Maroc, se hace con las riendas del Campeonato del Mundo FIA con 22 puntos de ventaja sobre Sébastien Loeb (Bahrain Raid Xtreme), anterior líder.

· Sam Sunderland, constante a lo largo de todo el campeonato, 5º en Marruecos, confirma su puesto de líder (74 puntos), delante de Pablo Quintanilla (52 puntos) y Ricky Brabec (50 puntos), ambos de Monster Energy Honda.

· Mason Klein (Rally 2), Alexandre Giroud (quads) et Chaleco López (T3) conservan también el primer puesto, mientras que en T4, Rokas Baciuska (South Racing Can-Am) y Marek Goczal (Cobant-Energylandia Rally) empatan. Kees Kooken (Project 2030) se alza ganador del Campeonato rally-raid FIA en T5

T1: Loeb cala, Al Attiyah adelanta

¡Cambio de tornas en el Campeonato del Mundo FIA! Nueve meses después de la ronda anterior en el Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Sébastien Loeb (Bahrain Raid Xtreme) se presentaba con un punto de ventaja sobre Nasser Al Attiyah (Toyota Gazoo Racing). Tercero en el Rallye du Maroc, el qatarí se ha adjudicado una etapa, frente a las dos victorias de su rival francés, que quedaba, sin embargo 13º. Por lo tanto, el piloto de Toyota Gazoo Racing suma muchos más puntos. Se hace así con el liderazgo en el campeonato del mundo, con 22 puntos de ventaja sobre Sébastien Loeb (144 puntos frente a 122 puntos).

El recital de la semana es para Guerlain Chicherit. Con su victoria en el Rallye du Maroc, el piloto de GCK Motorsport consigue uno de los mejores resultados de su carrera en rally-raid. La proeza le permite dar un salto en la clasificación del campeonato del mundo, para figurar quinto con 48 puntos. Sin embargo, para conocer el desenlace del campeonato y el Top 10 definitivo, habrá que esperar al Andalucía Rally.

T3: Chaleco conserva el liderazgo y Quintero acerca posiciones

En T3 se esperaba la batalla entre los dos líderes de la categoría: Chaleco López (Can-Am Factory South Racing), líder antes del inicio del Rallye du Maroc, y su rival principal, Cristina Gutiérrez (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team). Sin embargo, el gran ganador de la prueba ha sido Seth Quintero. El piloto estadounidense (Red Bull Off-Road Junior Team USA) se hacía con las riendas del rally la víspera de la meta antes de imponerse delante de Chaleco López y Cristina Gutiérrez. En la clasificación general, se encuentra en tercera posición (144 puntos), detrás del intratable chileno (182 puntos) y de la española (154 puntos).

T4: ¡un dúo a la cabeza en la categoría!

En la categoría T4 tan poco ha faltado el suspense y los numerosos cambios de tornas. El estadounidense Austin Jones (Can-Am Factory South Racing), líder antes de la salida finaliza tan solo en sexta posición del rally, por lo que cae a la tercera posición de la clasificación (151 pts). Le adelantan Rokas Baciuska (South Racing Can-Am), ganador del Rallye du Maroc, y Marek Goczal (Cobant-Energylandia Rally Team), con tres victorias de etapa en su haber. Curiosamente, los dos pilotos comparten el primer puesto en la clasificación al contar con el mismo número de puntos (152 puntos).

SSV/T4: SI NO ES UN GOCZAŁ ES OTRO

Si existiera una clasificación familiar en W2RC, los Goczał sin duda brillarían en lo alto. Los hermanos polacos del Cobant-Energylandia se han embolsado dos etapas cada uno en el Dakar y los puntos correspondientes… ¡lástima que no se puedan combinar! En esta clasificación, se impone por ahora Rodrigo Luppi de Oliveira de South Racing Can-Am. El brasileño, que ha conquistado una única especial, ha ocupado sin embargo los otros escalones del podio en dos ocasiones, lo cual le permite colocarse en lo alto del ranking del campeonato con un botín de 20 puntos.

T5: Kees Koolen, ¡primer piloto con título!

Martin Macik (MM Technology) ha volado por el Rallye du Maroc con su camión. Se ha impuesto en tres ocasiones y ha dominado la prueba de principio a fin. Sin embargo, no le ha bastado para usurparle el trono al líder de la categoría, Kees Koolen (Project 2030). El piloto neerlandés se adjudica dos etapas y termina segundo en Marruecos. El resultado le permite conservar una ligera ventaja a la cabeza de la categoría con 186 puntos, es decir 26 puntos más que Martin Macik. Al tratarse de la última ronda de la temporada: el neerlandés se convierte en el primer piloto en hacerse con su título este año.

Motos RallyGP: Sunderland, la fuerza tranquila

Invicto esta temporada tras sus prestigiosas victorias en el Dakar y luego en el Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, Sam Sanderland (GasGas Factory Racing) ha hecho gala de constancia a lo largo de todo el Rallye du Maroc. Quinto en la clasificación general, el británico afianza su puesto de líder en el Campeonato del Mundo con 74 puntos. Cuenta con 12 puntos de ventaja sobre el segundo, Pablo Quintanilla (Monster Energy Honda), que sufría una caída en el rally y termina décimo en la general. Por su parte, Ricky Brabec (Monster Energy Honda) sube al podio y pasa de la cuarta a la tercera posición (50 puntos). Su compañero de equipo Adrien Van Beveren, dos veces campeón de etapa, sube también un puesto del séptimo, al sexto (33 puntos). En el Andalucía Rally ¡todavía se podrían producir cambios en el Top 10!

Moto Rally 2, quads: buena operación para Klein y Giroud

A lo largo de todo el Rallye du Maroc, Mason Klein (BAS World KTM Racing Team) ha impresionado al seguir el ritmo regular de los RallyGP. Ganador de tres de las cinco etapas y a la cabeza de la general a lo largo de toda la prueba, logra imponerse sin grandes dificultades. En la clasificación del Campeonato del Mundo, confirma su ventaja con 88 puntos, delante del segundo, Romain Dumontier (Team Dumontier Racing), tercero del rally, 60 puntos. Situación similar en quads, categoría en la que Alexandre Giroud, ganador del Dakar y líder, ha sabido gestionar su liderazgo. Octavo en el Rallye du Maroc, tras romperse su motor, el piloto de Yamaha SMX Dragon’s aumenta su ventaja a la cabeza, con 63 puntos. La mayoría de los pilotos de todas las categorías se medirán de nuevo en Andalucía dentro de doce días para la última carrera de la temporada. ¡Va a estar muy reñida!

Rally 3: un comienzo por todo lo alto

Se trataba de la primera de las dos pruebas que puntúan para el Campeonato del Mundo FIM. Nueve pilotos tomaban la salida con sus motos de enduro de autonomía aumentada y dotadas de instrumentos de navegación. El rally se convirtió en toda una demonstración de Amine Echiguer. El marroquí se hace con cuatro de las cinco etapas y ha figurado toda la prueba en lo más alto de la general. Esta victoria “en casa” le permite hacerse con las riendas de la categoría, cuyo ganador se decidirá también en Andalucía. Guillaume Borne (Husqvarna Morocco Rally) y el piloto indio Abdul Wahid (Sherco TVS Factory) completan este primer podio de la temporada.
